Batman Motivation Part 1: Batman Begins & The Will to Act


It doesn’t matter when you were born, if it was after May of 1939, you know who Batman is. The Batman of the past decade has been that of Christopher Nolan, and what a hero he is. We have since come full circle in the trilogy of The Dark Knight and many have become enamored with these films for their action, adventure, hero and villains. But there are some things many audience members missed (as Chris Nolan often enjoys) while siting through 456 action-packed minutes. We all can be Batman. I’m not talking about heading to a Superhero convention in California. We all can be a little like Batman and use his philosophy to improve our lives and the lives of others. Here is some truly inspiration Batman motivation:

Henri Ducard: You traveled the world… Now you must journey inwards… to what you really fear… it’s inside you… there is no turning back. Your parents’ death was not your fault. Your training is nothing. The will is everything. If you make yourself more than just a man, if you devote yourself to an ideal, you become something else entirely. Are you ready to begin?

Even though this inspirational first line was spoken by a villain, it is no less true. We alone are nothing and can be easily discouraged or destroyed. But with a definite set of ideals, goals, dreams, nothing is unconquerable. What ideals do you stand for? What goals do have set? What do you dream your world to be? You can become someone else entirely.


Thomas Wayne: And why do we fall, Bruce? So we can learn to pick ourselves up.

Falling and failure is much more common than achieving and success. You must treat failures of both past and present as stepping stones to better tomorrow. When you first burned yourself playing with fire, you didn’t swear off fire forever did you? Then why put off the life of your dreams because you got burned a little? Failure is just another opportunity to succeed.

How many times have you asked someone about their plans and they tell you they are waiting until they are “ready”? Ready for what? Oh the time is not “perfect”? Skill does come from hours of working on your craft but until you push yourself over the edge your going to be training for that same goal at age 87. It is that push or will to act that sets you apart. And if you fail? I ask again; “Why do we fail?”

Bruce Wayne: People need dramatic examples to shake them out of apathy and I can’t do that as Bruce Wayne. As a man, I’m flesh and blood, I can be ignored, I can be destroyed; but as a symbol… as a symbol I can be incorruptible, I can be everlasting.

How true is that? People most certainly do need examples to shake them up. We are becoming more apathetic as a society. Don’t expect others to care about your ideals, goals or dreams. They were not given to them to show the world. That is your job. You must become the fighting force in your own life and show others the importance of your work through your actions. Your dreams are yours. Achieve them for yourself first and only then will other take notice.


Bruce Wayne: …It’s not who I am underneath… but what I do… that defines me.

It all comes to a point with this final quote from batman. You can be a great person and have good intentions but if your not making things happen what is the point? You have you the ideals for foundation and the training to implement them. Now what? Act! The will to act is everything. What you do defines you. Now get up off that couch and start doing some Bruce Wayne push ups!

We all fall. We all fail. Will you get back up?


Life hits us sometimes. It seems that everyone is either just coming out of a crisis or about to go into one. We all pretend that others are not or can not be going through the same problems we are going through. How selfish it seems to think that our problems are unique and that no one could understand or be there for us. Regardless of your life’s uniqueness, when you get knocked down hard by life, will you get back up? Do you know what it takes to get back up? Do you have what it takes?

1. How are you going to get back up?

Today more people are giving up than ever. Everyone wants to get rich quick on the internet or through other electronic means. Everyone puts little time and even less effort into these “businesses”, and then at the first sign of confrontation, they throw in the towel. Does it really matter if one gives up on the small things? Yes. Yes it most certainly does. If you are young and you quit at everything you start, what happens when life really hits you when you are older? You will most certainly give up. Our smallest daily habits will most certainly determine our long term overall success. Don’t give up on the little things. Push yourself and others to accomplish your goals and dreams.

Survival can be summed up in three words – never give up. That’s the heart of it really. Just keep trying.

2. Your dream is your and yours alone.

Some of us don’t even quit because we fail. Some quit becuase others dont believe in our “lofty” dreams or goals. If no one believes in you, is that any reason to quit? No, it absolutely is not. Your dream was not given to them. It was given to you. You must protect it and care for it to watch it grow. Our dreams are our own and we can not go and blame others if they do not come to fruition. You must accept that no one in the world can make your dream a reality more than you. Don’t let others pull you down before you’ve even started. You know what you are worth. Go out and get it.

3. Your belief is everything.

Once you stop listening to others the pace at which your dream comes into effect will be miraculous. With your belief and yours alone you can achieve your goals. Even without the support of others, people don’t believe in their own abilities enough to make positive change in their lives. When your encounter and obstacle in your path, make it your goal to learn how to overcome it. Where others fail from self doubt, you will succeed knowing that you can adapt and learn. Your mind is willing and able to open up and absorb situations like a sponge. Belief in yourself, your capabilities and your ultimate goals is all you need to keep moving forward.

4. Just decide.

Indecision is a scary thing. It can stop even the most determined person from succeeding. But all you have to do it decide. Decide who you are. Decide what you’re going to do. Decide how you’re going to do it. Write all of this down. When faced with a difficult decision, ask yourself these questions again. Whatever outcome will lead you to the answers of these questions, that is the correct one. Everyday is a new opportunity to become the person you want to be.


5. Is the world better?

Finally when all is said and done ask yourself, “Is the world better for my being here?”, and think. If the answer is “yes” and your goals are finished, tomorrow you will have the opportunity to start all over. If the answer is “no”, thankfully tomorrow you will still have the opportunity to start all over. Good luck.

It’s mid-January. And for most of you that means that you’ve already forgotten about your New Year’s resolution. If you need some motivation to keep moving forward, look no further. Here are five things you can do to set yourself ahead of the rest and make this year your best yet:

1. Always be ready for opportunity to strike (or work).

When you are starting to feel that fleeting motivation, open your mind to new opportunities. A closed mind can only lead to negativity or cynicism. Opportunity comes to those who are open to it. Call it whatever you like: fate, coincidence, the law of attraction, it’s all the same. The fact is that you miss 100% of the shots you don’t take. A cliche but it’s true. Open your mind and opportunity will come.

2. Always be willing to work on yourself (or on your goals).

Once you have your goals in order. You must be willing to work on them and challenge yourself daily. Don’t waste your time doing something with no benefit. Life is not about just going through the motions. Everything you do should have a purpose and meaning. In order to have what others do not, you must being willing to do what others will not.

3. “When you want to succeed as bad as you want to breathe, then you’ll be successful.” (Not a rule, but a state of being)

This quote comes from one of the most famous motivational speeches on the internet. Eric Thomas has made this simple formula for success. But most will never follow it. Why? Because unsuccessful people will stop reaching for their goals at the first barrier of entry. You must stop at nothing to achieve your goals. No wall is too high and no obstacle is too difficult. Achievement is like air. you need it to live and without it, you will most certainly die.

4. Throw away all distractions that keep you from breathing (a.k.a. succeeding).

Knowledge has been limited to the rich and powerful through out human history. For the first time the internet has provided almost all with access to the information to better their lives. But what do we do with this knowledge and information? The majority do nothing. Our distractions have made dull and uninterested. If anything the internet has made us feel small. We are not small. It is only focus that we lack. Priorities are just as important as goals. Budget your time wisely. Set your priorities straight. Achieve your goals.

5. Act as if money were not option.

What would you do if money were not an option? It’s a tough question, but must work at your goals as if money were not the driving force. What happens when you attach money to your favorite hobby? It becomes a job or work and ultimately less fun. Money will always be a necessity in this world but it does not have to be your ultimate motivation. Your intrinsic values are the most important things that you possess. Decide your values. Live by your morals. Set your goals. Achieve your dreams.

What to Do When You are Feeling Down and Out.


Okay so you’ve finally found what it is you want out of life. Great! And you wrote down a set of SMART goals and how to achieve them. Awesome! You’ve been at it for a month and you’re feeling unstoppable and no one can bring you down. Then…Boom! Your first real rejection. And you’re thinking to yourself, “Wait, I’m doing good things here. I’m fulfilling my dream. I did everything right. Are they not seeing what I’m seeing?” The answer plain and simple is “No”. They don’t see what you see and you can’t blame them. Here’s why:

1. No one knows you as well as you do.

We all live in our own reality. We choose how we are going to process the things that happen to us in our lives. We see everything from our point of view first and then, if we are feeling saintly, we choose to try and see it from someone else’s. No one knows what we do when we are alone. No one can gasp all of our thoughts at every waking moment. No one has seen the things that we’ve seen or done the things we’ve done. Some times that’s good, like for our embarrassing teenage years. And sometimes it’s bad, like when we prepped for that interview all night and it blows up in our faces. You choose what people know about you. You shape their image of you, through your words and actions. No one knows you until you let them. It’s up to you to make yourself important in some else’s eyes.

All the adversity I’ve had in my life, all my troubles and obstacles, have strengthened me… You may not realize it when it happens, but a kick in the teeth may be the best thing in the world for you.

2. The world doesn’t owe you a thing.

Everyone has heard about the law of attraction, The Secret or whatever you want to call it. The guiding principle is that what ever you create in you mind the universe will help you to create it in your reality. Some may get this confused as “the world or the universe owes me something”. This is a big mistake. A sense of entitlement is when you know you’ve reached the end. You should be working on your goals for you and for peace of mind. You’re not doing it for anyone else. You’re not doing it for material possessions. You should be dong it so that at the end of the day you go to bed with a clear conscience and excited for tomorrow’s adventures. That leads us to the final reason you can’t blame anyone for not seeing you’re dream.

Remembering that I’ll be dead soon is the most important tool I’ve ever encountered to help me make the big choices in life. Because almost everything – all external expectations, all pride, all fear of embarrassment or failure – these things just fall away in the face of death, leaving only what is truly important.

3. Your Dream is yours and no one else’s.

No one knows you as well as you do. No one has seen you trying to better yourself every day. The world doesn’t owe you a thing. Even after working your butt off there are billions of forces at play that have an effect on your life. You can’t control them. Except it and move on. Your dream is yours. Your life experience and your work have brought it to fruition. Don’t expect others to see it. It’s not theirs to see.

Think of how Walt Disney felt when he first shared his idea of a talking cartoon full length movie. Or when Steve Jobs said he would put a personal computer in every home. Or when Arnold Schwarzenegger said he wanted to run for office. They all faced rejection and were very open about its importance. But they kept moving forward. Claim your dream. Get back up. Get back out there and you better be willing to die for your dream. Because if you aren’t willing to die for your dream it most certainly will die with you. And no one will ever have know it existed. It’s all up to you. Good Luck!

Setting goals for the “20 something kid”


For the past couple of days I have been truly thinking about where my life is going and the decisions I make on a daily basis. It’s hard today to think about your future, when we are forced to always be thinking about the current moment. Today so many people can’t look up past their own cell phone screens to realize, they are in the middle of the street. This is a metaphor for many things about today’s “youth”, but it’s also real truth for everyone. Wake up, look around and realize that there is so much more than what you are comfortable with.

For some reason we have lost the sense of adventure that made our country what it is. We have forgotten that we are all immigrants of adventurers, who risked it all to come to a strange land to be someone new, better and different. Circumstances are different now for a person in their 20s and you could say that things are only getting worse:

1. Everyone has a degree but no one seems to have a career.

2. Everyone has the money to buy the newest and the best, but they can’t seems to make rent.

3. College loans have crippled us into a life not worth living, so we stay safe.

4. We stay so safe that our lives never grow, hence the “20 something kid”.

We can’t seem to grow because we are always afraid of not being able to make that loan payment. So we stick with the jobs we can get, most in the service industry. Everyone around us is telling us to “stay safe” and “save up”. Save up for what? If I have no goals, I nothing to live for. If I never take that plunge, I’ll never know. Don’t be afraid to fail. Failure is what builds character. Your material shit doesn’t make you who you are. Your credit score doesn’t make you who you are. Start building your character today. Take the plunge. I want to live. I want to be my own person. So I set goals every day to accomplish to feel full. I call it homework. If I don’t get my homework done, I’ll “get in trouble”. Give yourself some home work. If you don’t know where to start, I’ll help you. Image

Homework: Sit down in a relaxing place and write down your goals. Goals aren’t, “I want to be happy” or “I want to pay off my loans”. Those aren’t goals and you know it. Write down what you want to achieve in your life and without reservations. You’ll be surprise about what comes out.

Cliche quotes and obscure pictures: How stupid memes can give you everything you want


It seems that everyone is constantly crying about having all the things in life they wish they didn’t have. “I have no money.” “I have the worst job.” “I have no friends on Facebook.” That last one maybe a little extreme but you get the idea. Why is it that when we are in the company of others the majority of our time is dedicated to talking about the things we hate and the things we wish we had? What would happen if you decided to do the complete opposite? What if your days were filled with nothing but positive thoughts about your own life? Right about now people are done reading and I’ll tell you why. This task is too difficult. Doing something to improve your life is hard. Being a cynic and a complainer is easy.

Message: Be patient and all that you want will come to you eventually.

Message: Don’t be patient and your actions will give you what you want immediately.

Which one do you follow? Do you stay patient and wait for your life to eventually be the way you want? or Do you go out and chase the life of your dreams to get whatever it is you want? The answer is clear. It’s all up to you. Oh no, you read this far only to find out something you know you have heard already. Yeah, you did. Deal with it and read on. If you don’t think your little choices matter and you have no control, think again. The best way to describe how it all depends on you is by using Google Chrome. What? Google Chrome? What does that have to do with my life and my dreams? It all comes down to another cliche quote and obscure picture.

Message: What you do directly affects what you have and who you are.

The message is as simple as it is cliche. That is why Google Chrome is the perfect example of why you have what you don’t want. How does Google chrome work? You use the browser as you would any other browser but there is one big difference, It not only remembers your searches, but it uses them as a basis for advertising on your favorite sites. If you type in “graduate school”, guess what the next one hundred sidebar ads are going to contain. Yes, every grad school under the sun both big and small. It is microcosm for your life and very literal one at that. If all you do is search for the things you hate, what a “coincidence”, they keep showing up again and again in your life. That’s why there is no such thing as coincidence. You are what you search for. You get what you are constantly thinking about. Opportunities come to those who put themselves in positions to receive them. All successful people know this. Now it’s your turn.

In conclusion, you have everything you want already. You choose which cliche quote to follow. You choose which thought to have, just as you choose which shirt to put on. Controlling your thoughts is tough work so start small. What are you Googling? Yes that’s a word. Is it positive? Is it negative? Does it make you a better person or closer to your dreams? If not, let some other loser reap the “benefits” of that search. You’re too busy searching for how to better your life. The world is at your fingertips. What are you going to search for next?
